Albany

Albany is a northern suburb of North Shore City, one of several cities in the Auckland metropolitan area in northern New Zealand. It is located to the north of the Waitemata Harbour, 15 kilometres north west of the Auckland city centre. One of the city's newest suburbs, it was until relatively recently a town in its own right, and still has a feeling of not being truly a part of the city, which lies predominantly to the south east of it. Much of the land to the north of Albany is still semi-rural.

The population was 2,169 in the 2006 Census, with the population of North Shore City over 200,000. The Maori name for the area was Okahukura literally, place of rainbows or place of butterflies. The town was named Albany in 1890 after Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, a son of Queen Victoria.

Surrounded by sea, the area has an unbroken 140km urban coastline. Residents and visitors can enjoy a wide range of aquatic activities or go inland, where there are more than 500 parks and walkways through native bush reserves. The city is home to a thriving arts scene, award-winning cafes and restaurants, world-class sport and leisure facilities, modern shopping areas, as well as the beautiful parks and beaches and is surrounded by the unrivalled sailing and cruising waters of the Hauraki Gulf. Checkout Bayswater Marina with its 900m long breakwater which is open to the public and gives great views of Auckland City. It also is the site of bus and ferry services.

North Harbour Stadium is the location for matches on the 10, 22 and 30 September featuring France on the 10 and South Africa on both the other dates. The address is: North Harbour Stadium, Coliseum Drive, Albany expressway, Don McKinnon Drive and Oteha Valley Road, Albany, North Shore City, Auckland, New Zealand.
