Ivory Coast Missed Qualification France 2007

The Côte d'Ivoire or in English translation Ivory Coast rugby union team is one of the minor international teams in rugby union. There are only around 11,000 registered players and 10 proper clubs in the country however the sport is very popular with children.

The Fédération Ivoirienne de Rugby was only formed in March 1990, the same month that it joined the International Rugby Board. They qualified for the World Cup in South Africa 1995 and suffered heavy defeats to Scotland, France and Tonga. They look to be out of contention for 2007 having suffered with a loss to Uganda 24-7 on the 1st July 2006 and are now place 47th in the IRB world rankings.

The Future Is Bleak For The Elephants

Ivory Coast with the nickname of The Elephants play in strip of orange shirts, shorts and socks the shirt has not seen much success since reaching the 1995 World Cup where it featured in a heavy defeat to Scotland which raised questions about the smaller nations being included in the competition. We cannot see it featuring again in the future as the other nations are becoming stronger and stronger and Ivory Coast still remains a stronghold for football in Africa.
