Scotland Fall Short in 2011

Scotland losing to Argentina and then narrowly to the old enemy England meant that they were on the early plane home coming third in their pool and although this gives them qualification to 2015 it will be no consolation to the fans, coaches or players. They came so close but failing to score tries was their undoing, as was the incapability to compete for the full 80 minutes. There were two occasions when they let a lead slip in the last 10 minutes.This outcome makes 2011 the worst performance by Scotland in any Rugby World Cup.

Scotland For The Quarter Finals

English coach Andy Robinson has instilled some self belief in his young squad who are also benefiting from a better standard of rugby from Edinburgh and Glasgow in the Magners league and the Heineken Cup. But he still lacks strength in depth with a limited player base.

Currently ranked 9th in the world, Scotland's Quarter Final place in 2007 ensured automatic qualification for the rugby world cup in New Zealand, they'll be looking to match 1991's best ever placing by reaching the semi-finals another time. Scotland meet Argentina, England, Europe 1 and the play-off winners in Pool B at the Rugby World Cup 2011. We cannot see Scotland beating England and they will need to beat Argentina if they are to get out of the pool.
