Scotland's best Rugby World Cup performance came in 1991, when they reached the semi-finals, helped in no small part by playing all their group games at Murrayfield. They lost 9-6 to England, the other hosts, and failed to take third, losing to New Zealand in the play-off at Cardiff Arms Park. Scotland have always at least reached the quarter-finals, but have never gone further finding New Zealand their bogie team, losing to them in every world cup knock-out stage, except for the loss to England in 1991 and hosts Australia in 2003 and last time out Argentina in 2007. English coach Andy Robinson has instilled some self belief in his young squad who are also benefiting from a better standard of rugby from Edinburgh and Glasgow in the Magners league and the Heineken Cup. But he still lacks strength in depth with a limited player base.

Scotland have new shirts in time for the World Cup in France. Although they have kept to their usual blue the style has changed dramatically from past versions. Also as with most tier one nations it utilises all the latest technology. Currently ranked 9th in the world, Scotland's Quarter Final place in 2007 ensured automatic qualification for the rugby world cup in New Zealand, they'll be looking to match 1991's best ever placing by reaching the semi-finals another time. Scotland meet Argentina, England, Europe 1 and the play-off winners in Pool B at the Rugby World Cup 2011. We cannot see Scotland beating England and they will need to beat Argentina if they are to get out of the pool.
