South Africa storm towards Tri-Nations – Australia 25 South africa 32

South Africa silenced the critics who have said they are one dimensional. As early as the 5th minute Du Preez went over to open their account. Morne Steyn posting the conversion. 9 minutes and a sweet backs move sliced through the Wallabies defence and Jaque Fourie dotted down under the posts, much to everyones surprise Steyn missed the conversion 0-12, a few minutes later he made up for that as he put the Boks 0-15 ahead with a penalty. matt Giteau then slotted a penalty for the home side and it was 3-15. On 32 minutes the Wallabies bad luck got worse as Brian Habana took a lucky bounce from a dropped catch and beat the cover to dot down, Steyn converted and it was 3-22. Matt Giteau closed out the half with his second penalty to give us the half time score of; 6-22.

The second half and if Australia were to get into this game they had to score first and as at last they seemed able to hold the ball and string phases together Matt Giteau was able to dot down on 44 minutes and with the conversion narrow the lead to 13-22. This was as good as it got as yet again the Boks pressured the Wallabies leading to a second score of habana on 54 minutes, converted by Steyn 13-29, Steyn extended this further with a penalty on 67 minutes 13-32. Maybe the Boks now took their foot off the pedal but back came the Wallabies with two late tries one on 75 minutes to Giteau and then on the last play to Lachie Turner converted by Giteau giving us the final score of:

Australia 25-32 South Africa
