Zimbabwe National Rugby

The Zimbabwe national rugby union team are still positioned as a third tier rugby union nation. The country has played rugby since the late 1800s with international matches being played as early as 1910.

They have frequently played British Isles touring teams, who would regularly play matches against them to and from their tours of South Africa. The earliest tour being in 1910. The side has also played New Zealand on several occasions, the first being in the late 1920s.

Zimbabwe Miss RWC France 2007 Qualification

The Zimbabwe national rugby team have competed at two World Cups. The first in 1987 and the second in 1991. Zimbabwe did not win any of their fixtures. The country still relies heavily on South Africa for both playing and coaching support and remains a long shot for winning a place in the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France having lost to Ivory Coast and Uganda in the Africa round of competition.

Zimbabwe play in strip of white and green striped shirts, with white shorts and socks, the shirt has not been pulled on by any notable players but has been worn with pride and when the country was called Rhodesia was even worn in a victory 10-8 and 3-3 draw during 1949 against New Zealand. The peak of rugby in the country was the late 70's when some of the best players played for South Africa. Unless there are some giant steps forward we believe the other African countries will continue to develop faster than Zimbabwe and they will not reach future Rugby World Cup Finals.
